Choosing a Payment Processor

In order to sell subscriptions, shop items, event tickets or collect donations from your GroupSpaces website you do need to have an account with either PayPal or Google Checkout. These are the only two payment processors we work with at the moment, but we are open to supporting other options in the future.

To link your account with your payment processor, click on the Settings tab and select Payments from the left-hand menu.

Requirements to start receiving payments E-mail address only Google Checkout merchant account (requires US or UK bank account)
Requirements for accessing funds PayPal account using that e-mail address. Can access funds. In setting up a merchant account you will be required to link to a bank account to which you can then transfer funds.
Other Members can pay via PayPal and administrators can use their PayPal balance to pay for things online.

Simply enter the email address your PayPal account is registered under and choose your preferred currency and 'Save' and you're ready to start accepting payments.

Google Checkout

In order to accept payment via a Google Checkout account, visit the Payments Settings and select the Google Checkout option. On that page you'll be provided you'll be given a unique URL that you must paste into your Google Checkout account's integration settings.

Google Checkout will then provide you with a merchant ID and merchant key that you should paste into your GroupSpaces' payment settings to link the two accounts together.


Picking a Currency

Once you have set chosen a payment processor, you can visit the Payment Settings page to select your group's preferred currency.

On this page you should see a 'Currency' box with a drop-down list of the available currencies supported by your chosen payment provider. It is not possible to transact in a currency that is not supported by one of the two payment processors we work with.
